Attorney Matthews is a 1976 cum laude graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a 1981 graduate of Suffolk University Law School. He was admitted to practice in 1981.

Attorney Matthews served as an Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth from 1981 until 1987, where, as a member of the Executive Division, he concentrated on civil litigation in both state and federal courts, and handled appellate and administrative law work.  He commenced his employment with Cosgrove, Eisenberg and Kiley, P.C. in May 1987, and concentrates his practice in civil litigation.

Attorney Matthews has also been active in municipal government where he has also served as a member of the Finance Committee for the Town of Canton as well as on other municipal committees.
